Bathroom or Wet Room Tanking

If your bathroom is going to be used as a wet room then you will need to waterproof the area using a technique called tanking, this allows you to have a shower without a shower basin and a plughole directly into the floor for the ultimate height of luxury. This practise stops water from escaping the room and causing rot or damp in other areas of your home, whether you are having a wet room or not it is advisable to tank the area around your bath and shower to keep the tiles from falling off over longer periods of time.

There are a couple of tanking methods available each better for different situation, there are waterproof boards and a slurry like material, tanking should always be carried out by someone experienced in the use of these materials.

Bathroom Design Possibilities

Having a wet room in your bath or shower room opens up endless design possibilities for you, the sinkhole is sunken directly in to the floor so you have no need for a shower tray or even a bath if you don’t want one which leaves much more scope for design. You could have a large overhead power shower right in the centre of the room, a wall mounted jet shower or any tap or bathroom set you choose because you can get the floor and walls as wet as you like.

Luxury Bathroom

As well as opening up more design possibilities you could make your bathroom a place of luxury, your own little relaxation room, but the luxury does not come cheap! The room will need to be planned out first because once you have sealed the room you won’t be able to puncture the walls or floor in any way without breaking the seal so if you want pictures, shelving or mirrors or anything of the like then the fixtures such as screws and brackets will need to be installed first, it is not wise to have electrical or shaving sockets in a wet room.

What Does Wet Room Flooring Cost?

Wet room installation is a fairly expensive luxury, material costs alone can run very high especially for large rooms, but I am happy to come over and give you some ideas and advice. I can work out a bespoke price which can include some or all of the jobs needed in your bathroom from tanking to supply and fit or just fitting of tiles and finish. Choosing supply and fit could significantly reduce the total cost as I am able to source materials at a cheaper cost and am ahppy to pass the savings onto my customers.
